One of the most exciting parts was the re-injection gas equipped with a centrifugal compressor (Pignone) and driven by an ABB electric motor with an 11KVolt of power supply. The best part was undoubtedly the starting phase, where an excitation system manages the electric motor and a soft start in such a way to turn the motor slowly in starting phase. To see a soft opening that generates a power of 1500 amp, it's an astonishing thing, especially the sound of MOSFETs at total capacity. Consider the very high pressure of injection, which is up to 560 bar direct on wellheads. A hydraulic panel from Cameron manages the safety valves on the wellhead (wing master). The exciting panel, the Cameron panels, really are done well.
Unfortunately, like all the other projects, it does not always work everything properly. In this project, the dry gas that supplied the dry seals of the centrifugal compressor was not pretty clean. Consequently, the dry seals were affected by contamination of the process liquid that sometimes could be damaged the dry seal. If the dry seal releases large quantities of gas through to the primary vent, according to specification, the machine must be tripped in automatic mode by a pressure transmitter which is connected to the primary vent together with high flow from rotameter, in this case, the dry seal must be replaced.
Another great satisfaction is to see the three centrifugal flash gas compressors supplied by Manturbo. Also, in this case, the compressor is equipped with an electric motor with 11kVolt of power supply, but in this case, without soft start, because it is not necessary since the compressor is only two-stage and works with a lower pressure than the injection compressor (Pignone).
The automation part is managed by ABB, let's say a fairly reliable system but in some situations gave some problems.
The overall project was completed with great satisfaction, but special thanks to Iranian colleagues; they are special people.
