Muntz Metal UNS-C28000
C28000 Muntz Metal, also known as 60/40, is copper alloyed with zinc. C280 Muntz is most commonly found in sheet and plate form. Cu Zn40 is considered a duplex alpha-plus-beta brass and has excellent hot-working properties but is less corrosion-resistant than C464 Naval Brass. C28000 Muntz Metal is commonly used in architectural applications, including decorative panels, elevator doors, trim work and signage. Compared to the yellow tones of C260 Cartridge Brass, C280 Muntz has a warmer appearance that readily takes to polishing. Industrial applications for 280 brass include baffles and tube sheets for condensers and heat exchangers. Chemical Composition Muntz Metal UNS-C28000

UNS-C28000 Corrosion Resistant
Brass C28000 Alloy offers excellent corrosion resistance thanks to its high copper content. It prevents dezincification (see Disadvantages below) when exposed to water or other corrosive substances over time like most other alloys containing zinc. It also resists attacks from organic acids such as formic acid, acetic acid, and non-oxidizing mineral acids, including sulfuric acid in concentrations up to 15%.
Advantages
C28000 has good resistance to water, water vapour, different saline solutions, and many organic liquids. Land, sea and industrial atmosphere.
Disadvantages Under certain conditions (water with high chlorine content and low carbonate hardness) a form of corrosion called “dezincification” can occur. Furthermore, this alloy tends in a cold-formed temper under internal and/or external tensile stress when aggressive agents like ammoniac, and amine ammonia salts are present to “stress corrosion cracking”. Tensile stress can be applied after fabrication during assembly or installation. A heat treatment can help to avoid stress corrosion cracking. Semi-finished products can get a stress-relieving annealing treatment or softening treatment.
Conclusion Brass C28000 offers excellent machinability along with superior corrosion resistance compared with other metals like steel or aluminium making it an ideal choice for many industrial applications where performance matters most, such as valves or pumps in fluid flow systems operating under extreme temperatures or pressures that would otherwise degrade other materials over time without proper maintenance protocols being followed regularly by trained personnel responsible for overseeing operations related directly linked with those types of processes taking place within an organization’s infrastructure framework by default until further notice accordingly. Therefore if you are looking for a reliable metal that will stand the test of time even under harsh conditions, then consider using brass C28000
