The VEGAPULS 65 works on a non-contact radar principle, sending short microwave pulses from its slim rod antenna towards the liquid surface, which reflects the signals back to the sensor. By precisely measuring the time it takes for the signals to travel and return, the sensor determines the distance to the product surface and calculates the liquid level. This technique provides continuous, maintenance-free measurement that is independent of process conditions like foam or bubbles, making it ideal for liquids under simple process conditions in vessels with small openings.

How it Works:

  1. Microwave Emission: The sensor's antenna emits extremely short microwave pulses in the direction of the liquid.
  2. Reflection: The surface of the liquid reflects these microwave signals back to the antenna.
  3. Signal Reception: The same antenna receives the reflected signals.
  4. Time of Flight Measurement: The sensor measures the time elapsed from when the pulse was emitted to when it is received.
  5. Level Calculation: This time-of-flight is proportional to the distance to the product surface, allowing the system to calculate and output the level of the liquid.
