The VEGAPULS 6X is a non-contact radar level sensor that measures liquids and bulk solids by emitting microwave signals, which reflect off the medium's surface and are received by the antenna as an echo. The sensor analyzes the frequency or time difference between the transmitted and received signals to determine the distance to the product surface, thereby calculating the filling height. This measurement is then converted into an output signal and provides precise, maintenance-free readings regardless of process conditions.
How it Works:
- Signal Transmission: The VEGAPULS 6X emits continuous microwave signals or short microwave pulses through its antenna.
- Reflection: These signals travel to the surface of the medium (liquid or bulk solid) and are reflected back as an echo.
- Echo Reception: The sensor's antenna receives the reflected signals.
- Signal Analysis: The electronics analyze the difference in frequency or the time it took for the signal to travel to the medium and back.
- Level Calculation: This time difference or frequency difference is directly proportional to the distance to the product surface. The sensor then calculates the filling height based on this distance.
- Output: The calculated filling height is converted into an appropriate output signal (e.g., 4-20 mA/HART, Profibus PA, Foundation Fieldbus)
