Magnetrol Eclipse 705 Guided Radar Level Transmitter 705-510A-310 +
7EB-A410-024
The Enhanced Eclipse® Model 705 Transmitter is a looppowered, 24 VDC liquid-level transmitter based on the revolutionary Guided Wave Radar (GWR) technology. Encompassing a number of significant engineering accomplishments, this leading-edge level transmitter is designed to provide measurement performance well beyond that of many traditional technologies, as well as “through-air” radar. The innovative enclosure is a first in the industry, orienting dual compartments (wiring and electronics) in the same plane, and angled to maximize ease of wiring, configuration, and data display. One universal transmitter can be used with all probe types and offers enhanced reliability for use in SIL 2/SIL 3 hardware systems. ECLIPSE supports the FDT/DTM standard and, with the PACTware™ Frame Program, allows for additional configuration and trending flexibility.

The Eclipse 705 works on the Guided Wave Radar (GWR) principle, specifically Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR), where it sends electromagnetic pulses down a probe. When a pulse encounters a liquid or solid surface with a higher dielectric constant than the surrounding vapor, a portion of the pulse reflects back. High-speed circuitry measures the pulse's transit time to and from the surface, which is then converted into an accurate distance and displayed as a level reading.
Detailed Explanation
- Electromagnetic Pulse Transmission: The Eclipse 705 sends a high-frequency pulse of electromagnetic energy down its probe (or waveguide).
- Pulse Reflection: When this pulse reaches a surface that has a higher dielectric constant (a property of the material) than the air or vapor it's traveling through, a part of the pulse is reflected back towards the transmitter.
- Transit Time Measurement: The device uses ultra-high-speed timing circuitry to precisely measure the time it takes for the pulse to travel from the probe's tip to the surface and then back.
- Level Calculation: This measured transit time is converted into a distance measurement.
- Display: The calculated distance is then displayed on the device's local LCD as a level reading.
Key Advantages
- Accuracy: The TDR principle provides accurate level measurements.
- Robust Design: Guided Wave Radar is suitable for challenging applications with extreme temperatures and pressures.
- Ease of Use: The Model 705 is designed for ease of installation and configuration.
- Versatility: It can handle various media, including those with low dielectric constants, thanks to its advanced technology
