Magnetrol Eclipse 705 Guided Radar Level Transmitter 705-510A-110 +
X7EK-M45A-011
The Enhanced Eclipse® Model 705 Transmitter is a looppowered, 24 VDC liquid-level transmitter based on the revolutionary Guided Wave Radar (GWR) technology. Encompassing a number of significant engineering accomplishments, this leading-edge level transmitter is designed to provide measurement performance well beyond that of many traditional technologies, as well as “through-air” radar. The innovative enclosure is a first in the industry, orienting dual compartments (wiring and electronics) in the same plane, and angled to maximize ease of wiring, configuration, and data display. One universal transmitter can be used with all probe types and offers enhanced reliability for use in SIL 2/SIL 3 hardware systems. ECLIPSE supports the FDT/DTM standard and, with the PACTware™ Frame Program, allows for additional configuration and trending flexibility.

The Magnetrol 7EK is likely a type of guided wave radar (GWR) level transmitter, operating on the Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) principle, which uses electromagnetic pulses to measure liquid levels by reflecting pulses off the liquid's surface. When a pulse is sent down a probe, it reflects back, and a timing circuit measures the time it takes for the pulse to travel and return, allowing for precise level calculation. This method is effective for measuring both overall and interface levels in liquids and slurries, providing accurate, real-time data
How the 7EK (GWR) Works:
- Electromagnetic Pulses: The transmitter sends high-frequency electromagnetic pulses down a probe (a single rod or coaxial probe) into the liquid.
- Reflection: When these pulses encounter a change in dielectric constant—such as the liquid surface, which has a different dielectric constant than the surrounding air or vapor—they are reflected back.
- Time-of-Flight (TOF) Measurement: An internal timing circuit precisely measures the transit time of these pulses from the point of transmission to the point of reflection.
- Level Calculation: The measured time-of-flight is directly proportional to the liquid's level. This allows for a highly accurate and instantaneous measurement of the process level.
Key Features and Applications:
- No Moving Parts: Unlike traditional float or displacer-based switches, the GWR technology, including the 7EK, has no moving parts, which increases reliability and reduces maintenance requirements.
- Versatile Measurement: GWR probes can be used to detect the overall level of a liquid or to measure the level of an interface between two liquids with different dielectric constants.
- Wide Media Range: These transmitters are suitable for measuring a variety of media, including hydrocarbons and water-based liquids, within a broad range of dielectric constants.
- HART Communication: The 7EK likely supports digital communication protocols like HART, allowing it to transmit a standard 4-20mA signal along with digital diagnostic information.
In Summary: The 7EK uses advanced TDR technology to provide accurate and reliable liquid level measurement, making it a modern alternative to older technologies that rely on physical interactions with the liquid.
