Siemens Radar level transmitters / SITRANS LR 460
7ML54260BJ000BA0 - (Solid Aplication)
The Siemens SITRANS LR460 works on the FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar principle to continuously monitor the level of solids in a vessel. It transmits 24 GHz radar waves and measures the reflected signal's frequency difference, which is proportional to the time it takes for the waves to travel to the material and return. This time-of-flight measurement is then used to calculate the material's distance and, consequently, its level.

Key Aspects of the Working Principle:
- FMCW Radar: Instead of a single pulse, the LR460 emits a continuously modulated frequency.
- Frequency Difference: The device measures the frequency difference between the transmitted and received waves. This difference directly correlates with the travel time of the signal.
- Time of Flight: The time it takes for the signal to reach the material and bounce back is used to calculate the distance to the surface.
- Level Calculation: By knowing the distance to the material, the device can accurately determine its level.
Advantages for Solids Measurement
- High Signal-to-Noise Ratio: The high signal-to-noise ratio of the 24 GHz frequency provides excellent signal reflection and allows for reliable measurement, even with dusty materials.
- Advanced Signal Processing: The instrument's advanced signal processing (Process Intelligence) helps to ensure accurate readings in both simple and challenging solids applications.
- Non-Contact Measurement: Being a non-contact sensor, the LR460 does not need to come into direct contact with the material, which is beneficial for various solids.
- Dusty Environments: It is specifically designed to perform well in harsh conditions with high dust levels, making it suitable for applications like cement powder, coal, and grains.
