Krohne Radar level transmitters / OPTIWAVE 6500 C
VFDD401000212020130GP0000 - (Level Transmitter for powders and dusty atmosphere)
The KROHNE Optiwave 6500 C uses Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar to measure the level of solids like powders in challenging conditions, including dusty environments and high silos. It works by emitting a radar signal, which is reflected by the material surface. By measuring the time difference between the transmitted and received signals and analyzing the frequency shift caused by the Doppler effect, the device calculates the distance to the product and thus the level, even with low-reflective media or internal obstructions.

Key aspects of its working principle:
- FMCW Radar Technology: The transmitter sends out a continuous radar wave whose frequency is continuously varied over time.
- Signal Reflection: This wave is reflected off the surface of the material (e.g., powder in a silo).
- Doppler Shift: The reflected signal returns to the transmitter with a slight frequency shift due to the Doppler effect.
- Distance Calculation: The Optiwave 6500 C measures this frequency difference and uses it to accurately determine the time it takes for the signal to travel to the product and back. This distance then translates to the product level within the container.
- High Frequency & Small Beam Angle: The 80 GHz frequency provides a narrow beam, which helps to avoid false readings from internal tank structures and is effective in dusty environments.
- Advanced Algorithms:Specialized algorithms and high signal dynamics are employed to compensate for low-reflective materials, uneven surfaces, and dust, ensuring reliable measurements in demanding applications
