Krohne Radar level transmitters / OPTIWAVE 7400 C
VFDF40W50021C4801E0M1000 - (Level Transmitter for agitated and corrosive liquids)
The OPTIWAVE 7400 uses Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar technology to measure the level of liquids and pastes. A 24 GHz radar signal is emitted by the antenna, reflects off the product surface, and returns with a time delay. The device calculates the frequency difference between the transmitted and received signals, which is directly proportional to the distance to the product. This distance is then used to determine the level, volume, or mass within the tank

Working Principle Breakdown
- Signal Emission: The OPTIWAVE 7400 emits a radar signal from its antenna.
- Frequency Modulation: The frequency of this transmitted signal increases linearly during the measurement phase, a process known as a frequency sweep.
- Reflection: The signal travels to the product surface, reflects, and returns to the antenna with a time delay.
- Frequency Difference (Δf): The device measures the difference (Δf) between the currently transmitted frequency and the received frequency.
- Distance Calculation: Since the frequency difference is directly proportional to the time delay, and the time delay is proportional to the distance to the product surface, the Δf value is used to calculate the distance.
- Level Determination: The calculated distance, combined with the tank height and optionally a strapping table (conversion table), is used to determine the actual liquid level.
Key Features & Design
- Non-Contact Measurement: The device measures the level without touching the product, making it suitable for corrosive and agitated liquids.
- Antenna Types: It offers Metallic Horn antennas for general use and PTFE/PEEK Drop antennas, which are insensitive to condensation and are designed for aggressive liquids.
- METAGLAS® Sealing: An optional METAGLAS® second sealing barrier can be incorporated for added safety with toxic and dangerous products.
- 2-Wire Design: The OPTIWAVE 7400 is a 2-wire, loop-powered level transmitter.
