Krohne Radar level transmitters / OPTIWAVE 7500 C
VFDF40W500211480240MC7000 - (Level Transmitter for liquids in narrow tanks with internal obstructions)
The OPTIWAVE 7500 works by using Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar technology to measure the non-contact, continuous level of liquids in challenging narrow tanks with internal obstructions like heating coils or agitators. It transmits a radar signal, which reflects off the liquid surface and is received back by the sensor. The frequency difference between the transmitted and received signals is proportional to the distance to the liquid, allowing for accurate level calculation

How FMCW Radar Works
- Transmission: The OPTIWAVE 7500 transmits a continuous radar signal whose frequency is constantly changing (modulated).
- Reflection: This signal travels to the liquid surface, reflects off it, and returns to the sensor.
- Reception: The sensor receives the reflected signal.
- Frequency Difference: Since the reflected signal has been traveling for a certain time, its frequency is different from the transmitted signal at that instant.
- Distance Calculation: The device measures this frequency difference, which is directly proportional to the time the signal took to travel to the liquid and back.
- Level Measurement: By calculating this time-of-flight, the sensor determines the distance to the liquid surface, providing a continuous and accurate level measurement.
Key Features and Applications
- Narrow Beam Angle: The 80 GHz frequency of the OPTIWAVE 7500 results in a very narrow beam angle, which is ideal for avoiding obstructions like internal tank components.
- Non-Contact Measurement: It measures the liquid level without physical contact, preventing contamination and wear.
- Tank Bottom Management (TBM): This feature uses dedicated algorithms to filter out false reflections, ensuring reliable measurements even when the tank is nearly empty or has a complex bottom geometry.
- Flush-Mounted Lens Antenna: The PEEK and PTFE lens antenna is insensitive to build-up and corrosion and is flush-mounted, minimizing intrusion into the tank.
- Challenging Conditions: The transmitter is suitable for narrow tanks, long nozzles, corrosive liquids, and high temperatures and pressures.
- Internal Obstructions: Its design makes it effective in tanks with internal features such as agitators or heating coils.
