Krohne Radar level transmitters / OPTIWAVE 5200 C
SF50921LD3GP2A14C10000121 - (Level Transmitter for liquids in storage and process applications)
The Krohne Optiwave 5200 measures liquid and paste levels using Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar technology. It works by emitting a continuously increasing-frequency radar signal that reflects off the product surface. The time delay between the transmitted and received signals, or the resulting frequency difference (Δf), is directly proportional to the distance to the surface, which is then used to calculate the level.

FMCW Radar Principle
- Signal Transmission: The Optiwave 5200 emits a high-frequency radar signal from its antenna. Frequency
- Sweep: The frequency of the transmitted signal increases linearly over a short period (the frequency sweep).
- Reflection: The signal travels to the product's surface, reflects, and returns to the antenna. Signal Reception: The device receives the reflected signal after a specific time delay. Frequency Difference (Δf): A difference (Δf) is calculated between the instantaneously transmitted frequency and the received frequency. Distance
- Calculation: This frequency difference (Δf) is directly proportional to the distance (d) to the product surface, calculated as \(t=2d/c\), where c is the speed of light.
- Signal Processing: A Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is performed to convert the frequency difference into a frequency spectrum, allowing the distance to the product to be determined.
- Level Determination: The distance is subtracted from the total tank height to derive the measured level.
Key Features and Applications
- Non-Contact Measurement: The Optiwave 5200 is a non-contact radar level transmitter, making it ideal for various materials including corrosive products.
- Applications: It measures the distance, level, and volume of liquids, pastes, and slurries in storage and process tanks.
- Modular Design: The device features a modular design with a quick coupling system for flexible installation in different positions.
- Process Conditions: It is designed to operate under extreme conditions, such as high temperatures and pressures, and in corrosive environments.
