The OPTIFLEX 7200 works using Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) (guided radar) technology, which sends low-intensity electromagnetic pulses down a probe and measures the time it takes for them to reflect off the liquid's surface. The measured time is converted into a continuous level measurement, providing accurate readings for various liquids in demanding industrial applications like the chemical and oil & gas industries, even with conditions such as steam, foam, or changing pressures.
How it Works
Pulse Emission: A low-intensity electromagnetic pulse is sent along the device's rigid or flexible probe. Reflection: When the pulse reaches the surface of the liquid, it is reflected back towards the device. The intensity of the reflection depends on the liquid's dielectric constant.
Time Measurement: The device precisely measures the time between the transmission of the pulse and its return.
Distance Calculation: Since the pulse travels at the speed of light, half of this measured time is equivalent to the distance from the probe's reference point (the flange) to the liquid surface.
Signal Conversion: This time value is then converted into a 4-20 mA current output or other digital signals for the control system.
