Thread identification and measure SAE Fittings JIC 37°
(Society of Automotive Engineers Thread)
Indroduction:
SAE 37° Threads Dimensions
Thread and agle Identification As per all other fittings the thread identification it remains the same like in the table below:
The SAE fittings angle 37° should be like in the photo below:
If the center line of the fitting and the longitudinal axis of the gauge are parallel, the seat angle and the gauge angle are the same then it is a fittings SAE 37° JIC. If not, try another gauge to identify which fitting it is.

Standard Working Pressure The standard working pressure of the fittings ranges from 1000 to 6000 psi for different sizes and connections. The minimum burst pressure is four times the working pressure. JIC fittings must be able to withstand twice the working pressure for a period of 1 minute without failure or leakage. Working Temperature
note: For temperatures above +100 C, the max. working pressure may require reduction. Sealing NBR seals are used for carbon steel fittings, Viton (FPM) seals for stainless steel fittings as a standard. Working temperature range of the seals:
How does a JIC fitting works: For tube connections (Figure below), the assembly procedure starts from the preparation of the tube. First, the nut and sleeve are inserted onto the end of a tube. With the use of a flaring tool, form the end of the tube to 37 degrees. Next, tighten the nut by using a spanner until the nut is tight and the sleeve grips onto the tube. If the fittings are bench assembled, the gripping action can be determined by rotating the tube by hand as the nut is drawn down. When the tube can no longer be rotated by hand, the sleeve has gripped onto the tube. When this happens,, tighten the nut by turning it one full turn. This may vary slightly with different tubing materials, but for general practice, it is a good rule to follow.
Configuration of JIC Fittings Commonly used connection types consist of: JIC/BSPP Male Connector, JIC/ NPT Male connector, JIC Union, JIC/NPT Swivel Male Connector, JIC/BSPP Swivel Male Connector. JIC fittings (aka SAE 37° tube fittings, flared fittings, or SAE J514 fittings) are the most popular hydraulic fluid connector in North America. While JIC fittings are often used for joining tubing in a hydraulic system, they are frequently used on hose as an end adapter for female JIC swivel fittings, which are the most common end connection for hydraulic hose assemblies.
Conclusion: Commonly known as JIC fittings and found in fluid power systems. Use caution when identifying this fitting, as the threads are the same as SAE J512 45-degree in -2, -3, -4, -5, -8 and -10 sizes. The sealing surface angles are different, however.
