Autoclave Die Chasers Machine

Unlike the manual tool, the preparation of the electric machine to perform the thread on Tubing is totally different. The installation procedure of the Chasers on the Die Head is not elaborate, but some precautions must be considered. One of these is to match the numbering of the Chasers with the numbering of the Die Head. For more details see the manual here

Note: During the installation of the Chasers must use original torque keys from Autoclave Engineering to unscrew the screws. If will be used a different key, there is a risk that the screw heads can damage, with the consequence that the machine is unusable. To remove a screw with the broken head is very difficult, especially with these types of screws installed on the machine.

Recommendations

  • Before Install the Chasers, Trip die head into the open position (always).
  • Before doing anything else, calibrate the "Spacer Head Assy. through the collar of the fitting that will be installed. For more details, see the guide here.
  • Before proceeding with the thread, make sure the machine is configured correctly. For example, Pitch Diameter - With the die head in the closed position, check the pitch diameter of cutting dies by attempting to screw a standard factory-threaded nipple into the die head. If the piece does not go in smoothly, loosen adjusting ring binding screw using a 5/32" Allen wrench.
  • Before placing the tubing in the collet, rotate the "tube stop" to avoid the tube itself unintentionally touching the Chasers with the risk that it can damage the Chasers.
  • Always use the plastic protector when making the fillet. This is to prevent the chips jump dangerously.
  • When the machine run, never put the hands between the tube and the thread head. The calibration shall be performed before.
  • Always use eye protection goggles.
  • Never make thread without the oil lubrication.
  • If you replace the tool due to the changing diameter of the tubing, always remember to test with the sample nipples if they screw well into the die head.
  • A competent person must operate this type of machine; he must be aware when is require to replace tools due to get damage or worn out.
  • If the tubing swings during the bite by the Chasers, it means they are ruined the "ball bushing" or the "restraining ring". Don't keep working; stop the machine and replace the pieces. Usually, these kits consist of 8 pieces. Don't try to replace just someone. You must replace all eight pieces.
  • Pay attention when working with a hard tubing material such as Inconel; it is easy to damage the Chasers. Always go slowly.
  • Proper circulation of the cutting oil throughout the machine is critical and depending on the ambient temperature it may be necessary to allow time for the oil to warm up enough to circulate freely. Do not perform coning or threading operations until oil flows from the tubes.
  • This machine is designed to be operated under clean and dry conditions. Operating environment temperatures should not be below 32°F (0°C) or greater than 100°F (38°C).
