The KROHNE BM 26 BASIC works on the principle of communicating vessels, using a magnetically coupled float inside a bypass chamber to indicate the liquid level in an adjacent tank. As the liquid level in the tank changes, a float inside the chamber rises or falls with it, moving a magnetic follower or rotating magnetic flaps in a transparent glass tube outside the chamber to provide a visual, local level indication without requiring power.

How it Works

1. Bypass chamber: The BM 26 is installed next to a tank, connected via two nozzles to create a bypass chamber. The liquid level in this chamber is the same as in the main tank.
2. Magnetic float: A float with a permanent magnet is placed inside the bypass chamber. As the liquid level in the tank changes, the float rises or falls with it.
3. Indicator: Adjacent to the bypass chamber, a display tube contains a column of magnetic flaps or a magnetic follower (bar indicator).
4. Magnetic coupling: The magnet inside the float magnetically couples with the indicator, causing it to rotate or move in sync with the float.
5. Visual indication: The flaps inside the tube turn from one color to another (e.g., yellow to black) to show the level, or the follower moves up and down the scale, providing a highly visible and reliable local level reading.

• Interface indication: The indicator can also be configured to show the interface level between two immiscible liquids.
