A Masoneilan digital positioner uses a microprocessor to receive a digital or analog (4-20mA) control signal from a controller and a feedback signal of the valve stem position. It compares these signals to calculate the necessary pneumatic output to an actuator to move the valve to the correct position. Key features include digital diagnostics, automatic calibration, and communication via protocols like HART for advanced control and performance monitoring
